Local Walks

The lively market town of Sturminster Newton offers two short, easy to follow walks:

  • Fiddleford – Short walk (1.6 miles) that takes in farmland and a river by Fiddleford Mill.
  • Broad Oak – A moderately difficult walk (3.4 miles) that takes you through Piddles Wood.

There are many more places to walk which are close by, including the Medieval Bridge at Fifehead Neville which spans the river Divelish. (see photo to the right)

Bulbarrow Hill

The second highest point in Dorset at 274 metres which offers views of four counties.

There are various walks in and around this area including Milton Abbas to Bulbarrow which is approx 8.5 miles. This route takes you past Milton Abbey, followed by a long climb up to the brow of Bulbarrow Hill where you are rewarded with far-reaching views. (see photo to the right)

Wessex Ridgeway

Starting at Ashmore on the Dorset/Wiltshire border, this 62.5 mile trail takes you across North Dorset to the coastal town of Lyme Regis. For more information and a downloadable guide to this fantastic walk, visit www.dorsetforyou.com.

Jurassic Coast Walks

The star attraction of Dorset, the Jurassic Coast is 96 miles of world renowned coastline.

A favourite destination for walkers and nature lovers, why not drive down to West Lulworth (less than an hour away) and take in the wonderful Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door.

The Jurassic Coast is a small part of the South West Coast Walk which begins at Studland near Poole and continues on to Minehead in Somerset. There are over 600 miles of walks, from easy to challenging, through the counties of Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

If you are an individual, couple or part of a walking group and are looking for places to walk, Gorse Farm House can provide relaxing accommodation where you can take a break in between your outdoor adventures.
